Mikheil Khergiani (1932-1969) was an internationally known mountaineer, three times the USSR champion is mountain climbing. He climbed many difficult peaks in the Caucasus, Pamir and Tien Shan. He was dubbed the Mountain Tiger in England.
He started to keep a diary in 1963, recording his past achievements and current events. The entries stop on 3 July 1969, a day prior to the fatal attempt to climb Sualto in the Italian Alps.
