For centuries now Georgian historians and in general, public thinkers have been trying persistently to understand and appraise the deeds of Giorgi Saakadze. These attempts became even more intense during last few decades. The matter does not appear so complicated at first sight, but there is an explanation to why the interpretation of this issue took a wrong direction. The reason is the interference of the once eminent "Leader of Nation" Joseph Stalin who, together with other things, considered himself a great historian. Because of the totalitarian nature of the Soviet System, Georgian historiography suffered terribly from his "pseudo-wisdom". Unfortunately, the situation has not yet completely improved even today.
