Translated from German, introduction and comments by Ghia Gelashvili
The aim of the publication is to introduce August von Haxhausen, a German economist, lawyer, writer and agricultural scientist. He is best known for his extensive work about the Russian Empire, which he visited in 1843. As part of his six-month visit to different regions, he came to Georgia, which he described in his two-volume work The Transcaucasia published in Leipzig in 1856. One of his interesting comments was that what might be acceptable for the Russian population was ruinous for the Baltic Germans and the Caucasian countries.
The book is accompanied by a name, geographic, ethnic and subject index.
