Colonel Stephen Burnashev, who was an extraordinary envoy of Catherine II at the courts of Erekle II and Solomon I, and, at the same time, the commander of the Russian army in Georgia according to the terms of the Georgievsk Treaty between 1783 and 1787, authored three analytical and descriptive works during his service in Georgia. His writings represent an important source from the 1780s concerning the Kingdom of Kartli-Kakheti, South Caucasus, and the Islamic khanates and mountain peoples to the south. These works, along with their Russian originals, are presented here for the first time with their Georgian translations.
Translated from Russian, with research, explanations, and indexes provided by David Merkviladze.
